If you’re a fan of Harry or a fan of Jesus, Derek Murphy’s book will open your eyes to the startling similarities between these two characters and why those similarities exist. Murphy takes us on an in depth journey through the land of epic hero tales, their ancient origins and how (and why) they developed. By the end of the journey, Murphy pulls it all together and dares to ask who is perhaps the greater role model; Harry or Jesus?
I found this book eye opening and impossible to put down.

The initial discussion of Jesus Potter Harry Christ – focusing on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books, the commonalities between Jesus and Harry Potter as literary figures, ancient and current controversies, and pagan gods and goddesses in mythological traditions – sets the stage for Murphy’s comprehensive, fluid and riveting history of how and why Christianity rose and continued to develop through to the second Council of Nicea (787 AD). From Heraclitus to Plato, pagan and Jewish mythologies, readers are finally directed straight to the Apostle Paul and the instruction of his mysteries to congregations that laid the foundations of the early Christian world. Murphy’s book is too broad to capture in a single review, but suffice it to say that a changed worldview can be effected for laypeople and biblical commentators who are interested in deepening their awareness of the connections between pagan, Jewish, and Christian history. Really a great & magnificent book about discovering the astonishing relationship between Jesus Potter & Harry Christ. The book is all about The Jesus myth theory also known as the Christ myth theory and the nonexistence hypothesis. Jesus Potter Harry Christ is all about religious history, comparative mythology, astrological symbolism which is the main theorem of establishing the critical relevancy and importance of the literary Jesus. It traces the roots of the controversy. I liked this book. Thanks for such informative site. All the best.

Absolutely loved it! With so much misinformation being disseminated about Jesus Christ, this book was refreshing. Derek pulls from notable and reliable sources to frame his arguments in a way that is both intriguing and satisfying. His insights into the phenomena that captivate the fans of literary characters like Harry Potter and Jesus Christ are extraordinary. To anyone who enjoys a mystery being unraveled, Harry Potter Jesus Christ is a must read.”

Excellent book. This is very informative for us.I want to say about bible study. The bottom line of why we are to study the Bible is so we may know God, His Way, and grow in our knowledge and faith in Him so we can then be better used by Him. We are called to spiritual growth-that is, the formation of the investment of faith Christ gives us that we give back to Him in dividends. This is a deep conviction of our faith, a practiced submission that shows our obedience, and a life of personal and relational maturity. We can’t do this when we bring what we want into Scripture and not take out what God wants us to have! We have to listen to God; if not, we will not learn and then we will not grow and then we will not have a life of transformation.

A variety of historical books that should grab your aid the next time you study purchasing books for your Christian Library.
Christians should be very familiar with the account of the church. It is the bequest of God’s divine dealings with His chosen people from the time of Messiah until our ain years. It manages with the expression of school of thought, the martyrs of the religion, the growth of the body of the Christian church, and thousands of cardinal patterns that Deity powerful used for the propagation of Sojourner Truth and of the subject matter of the Gospel. Reading books about church story is essential reading material for the Christian Reader. Hopefully these testimonials will help. It can be habituated as intake and amusement for Christian readers who want to reckon the powerfulness of Gods agency of doing things triumph over the foes of kindness and making love. Thanks for the well researched background for the myth of Jesus Christ. As a veteran of many discussions about the historical Jesus and the historical Jesus Christ, as you point out two entirely different figures, I find your argument debunking the historical Jesus Christ interesting and persuasive. Thanks for your comment! It would be really helpful if you could post this on amazon.com as well!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1136635289 Betsy Edgar Perkins

This book is interesting on the surface, but deeply flawed because Mr. Murphy did not pay attention to contemporary scholarship regarding oral-written interactions.   A crucial book that Mr. Murphy either didn’t know about or ignored when compiling his ideas is  _Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony_ by Richard Bauckham.  I urge Mr. Murphy to study Bauckham’s book before publishing anything further.  It’s not an easy breezy read, but “Jesus and the Eyewitnesses” is thorough in its analysis of the way oral literature interacts with written literature.

And regarding “awesome details about the Bible” mentioned by some in this discussion — Mr. Murphy does NOT know the Bible as well as all that, if he called Paul a “priest” (p. 339).   Paul was of the tribe of Benjamin, not Levi (Philippians 3:5).  Only Levites from the house of Aaron were priests.

  • http://www.holyblasphemy.net Derek Murphy

Thanks for your comments, Betsy. I tried to use original source material rather than modern scholars (of either persuasion) – because modern scholars only interpret and present source material through the filter of their own opinion. This is especially true in the case of religious scholars who start from a position of faith before approaching the evidence. Bauckham’s book “The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony” not only does not prove that the gospel writers were eyewitnesses, but is lacking in evidence. He gives a fine argument of how oral literature may have become written literature – but it does not overpower the evidence I’ve collected in my own book, which cannot be ignored. (I second Neil Godfrey’s 1 star review of Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: “anti-enlightenment, pro-medieval fundamentalism in the guise of scholarship”.)

By the way, please post your comment on amazon as well – hopefully a 2 or 3 star at least if you appreciate the work that went into it?

Mostly likely the truth is somewhere in the middle – Jesus may have been a person who sparked a movement; but the gospels are literature and borrow extensively from pre-Christian (non-Jesus) sources.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1136635289 Betsy Edgar Perkins

Regarding your remark that modern scholars, especially of the religious persuasion, only present source material only through their own filters:  Try thinking at all without any filter.Stanley Fish: “I believe you cannot operate without [faith]. This is another way of saying that there’s no such thing as an open mind, and that’s a good thing. If you had an open mind, a mind not structured by presuppositions, it would have the characteristics of a sieve. Everything would just fall right through it. So I am an advocate of close-mindedness.”

G.K. Chesterton: “Merely having an open mind is nothing.  The object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.”You approach your “original source materials” with the mind of a modern.  What Dr. Bauckham does is open a window onto those ancient texts to allow us to read them the way the ancients did.  Don’t kid yourself; you are very religious and hold to as rigid a set of dogmas as I do; the big difference is that I, like a good scientist, can articulate my prior assumptions.Betsy E Perkins

Thanks again for your comment and the review on amazon, it’s much appreciated. I agree that no one has an ‘open mind’ and that everybody has a filter. I would hazard however that there is a difference between a filter that believes in logic, structured natural laws, cause and effect, and a filter that accepts supernatural or miraculous, non-causal solutions.

It’s interesting that you quote from Stanly Fish. I’m doing my PHD thesis mainly against Fish’s claim that Milton’s Paradise Lost is a program of “reader harassment”; a poem
designed to scold unwary readers who allow themselves to be tempted by grand rhetoric of Satan into momentarily pushing aside the “imperative of Christian watchfulness.” Fish’ perverse reading of Paradise Lost ignores everything on the surface of the text based on a presumed divine mission behind it.

Dear DerekMurphy,You must excuse this rather circuitous way of contacting you, but, after exhaustively scanning the internet,it woulf appear you have no “official” e-mail address for me or anyone else for that matter to personally submit our comments to. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that your book was a great read and should have been at the top of the New York Bestseller List instead of the “predictably limited” exposure it has received since it was first published. The reason for this is,as you well know,2000 years of PREPROGRAMMED CONDITIONING (aka WESTERN CULTURE). In laymans terms, this translates to your book not getting a FAIR HEARING in the court of popular (and therefore “Christianized”) opinion. Or,if you consider that your book has had a fair hearing, then the verdict has most definitely been the PREJUDICED CONSENSUS OF A “KANGAROO COURT”. To be sure,if you disagree with this assessment, then how come you are not as famous as Jesus Christ or Muhommad? If you wish to respond,I am more than happy to elaborate. With kind regards,Joseph Lis,LL.B.
